The prophet Joel interpreted what was happening to the land as a sign of God’s judgment on the people, he called them to repent for turning away from God. In the end, Joel predicted, God’s judgment would be much worse than a plague of locusts if the people didn’t turn back to God. Restoration and blessing would come only if the people turned back to God.

The central message is a message for all time:
GOD WILL JUDGE THOSE WHO OPPOSE HIM AND WILL BLESS THOSE WHO FOLLOW HIM.
